Change

In the seasons of the year, from snow to greening, flowering, fruiting and harvest, in the seasons of life, from childhood to youth, full ripeness, and saging. All living things keep changing.

And so too with this little undertaking. With the pause that Peter (mostly known as Covid-19, but I find that a bit cold and impersonal, so I call it ‘Peter’) has bought, it has been a blessed time for reflection.

Reflection for me, has helped to bring a new and fresh understanding. Now, isn’t that an interesting word? “Understanding” literally means to ‘stand under’. During this lovely pause, I have been quietly observing our world. As I have quietly looked at this world, some things become very obvious… like the obvious fact that we live in an ego-driven world. And ego, by its very nature, means that it can never ‘understand’. In fact, ego does the opposite – stands over in an effort to grasp and hold and control. Understanding in contrast brings openness, waking and growth.

So, a little understanding that has emerged for me during this pause is to bring a new change to what I am doing.

I have been thinking about those moments in our lives that might be described as possible ‘peak’ experiences. Those moments that became timeless. Those moments where pure delight prevailed. The more obvious might include:

  • Those moments that nature can bring that surprise, delight and bring awe – sunrises, sunsets, walks in forests, flowers and so many more.

  • Childbirth – the incredible wonder and awe that the arrival of a new life brings.

  • Love, be it falling, making or being.

  • Music and the way it can instantly transport us to another place, bring pure joy and delight as well as transport our emotions.

And it is my desire to pack in more peak experiences that I have decided to transform my little antique business towards some of those things that just sweep us up. But at the same time, those values dear to me like recycling, renovating and reusing will remain unchanged.

You will now see me bringing a retro music theme into my projects. My projects too will be transforming. You will see projects that you may have never seen before…

Departures are a necessary part of our journey, necessary for the arriving.
